SANTA CLAUS IN PRESTON
SANTA CLAUS IN PRESTON
It's December the twenty fourth
And the sky is closing down
The daylight hours disappear
And Santa is coming to town
But don't you often stop and think
Where Santa pulls up for a brew
For Father Christmas needs a break
Just like you, me and we do
So all those reindeer and his sleigh
Have to hide where no one sees them
What better place to hide your cart
Than on top of the Harris Museum
This fine Greek architecture
Is the pride of the market square
Imagine what Mr Claus can see
While he's parked on the top of there
I can picture him having a ponder
At the festive twinkling lights
And scanning the smokeless chimney pots
On this Christmas evening night
A look to his left and he would see
A fine building that was built to lasta
The Miller arcade Italian style
Mama Mia was built in the pasta
After a glimpse of Crystal house
Which I admit does nothing for me
A turn of his head to the right of his sledge
An array of fine buildings he'd see
At first the old post office catches his eye
For a century it dealt with the mail
And Preston's Old Bailey, the sessions house
Has sent many unfortunate folks in to jail
One look at the glorious Cenotaph
Every year will make old Santa sad
All those brave young fighting men
Lost the chance of being a dad
But it's time for Santa to be on his way
There's still a big job to be done
Sat at the back of his beautiful sledge
There's a big fat bag full of fun
Stamping his feet to shake off the cold
He screws the top back on his flask
His watch says almost Christmas time
He must get on with his task
For all the elves at Santa's pad
Packed his sack with chunks of joy
Each present has a Christmas tag
For the Preston girls and boys
And don't forget to spare a thought
When you wake on Christmas morn
As this was all made possible
On the day that Christ was born
And when Santa is back in Lapland
Sat drinking a well deserved beer
Join in with him and down a glass
To a prosperous and peaceful New Year
